Grasmere's location, at the base of the Southern Alps gives you a feeling of awe, with 7000 metre peaks towering above. Apart from the setting, the lodge has become famous for it's traditional New Zealand hospitality and it's old-style farm atmosphere.
Grasmere has a warm inviting library, full of books that document the history of the place. The traditionally-styled lounge with large open log fireplaces in the original stone ensure cosiness on colder days, and serves as the meeting place for cocktail hour before dinner. In summer the doors open out into the garden for al fresco hors d'oeuvres.
Accommodation includes The Chalet - clad in cedar and copper is a short walk from the homestead. Each junior suite can be booked individually and has private access. Alternatively, a central lounge or the Great Room can be combined with one or both downstairs rooms. The lounge has an eight-metre high beamed ceiling, with leather sofas and a huge log fireplace of stunning South Island West Coast schist.
New in 2004, the Riverview Cottage has enormous windows to take full advantage of sweeping views down the Cass River and across to the Puketeraki Range - the heart of the Arthur's Pass National Park. It features two junior suite, each with their own gas fireplace, with walk-through wardrobes, separate toilets, and spacious bathrooms with individual vanities and Jacuzzi baths. |
