This magnificently restored lodge is only 20 minutes from Christchurch and boasts the turn-of-the-century gardens and one of New Zealand’s most important historic homes - Otahuna Lodge. The homestead is one of the best examples of unspoiled Queen Anne architecture existing in Australasia and it was originally built in 1895.
The spectacular gardens of Otahuna include a unique blend of New Zealand natives and English colonial planting, the original gardens feature many rare and exotic trees, many of which are now protected by law. All the modern amenities are on-tap at Otahuna, even though it feels like you’ve stepped back in time.
The eight suites are themed to reveal a different element of the Otahuna story. Original fireplaces are still in place in some of the ensuite bathrooms, while super king beds, and spectacular views add to the feeling of luxury.
