Wharekauhau Lodge means place of knowledge in our indigenous Maori language, and after being here you'll feel like you're a little closer to knowing how beautifully rugged our eastern lower North Island coast really is. Situated at Palliser Bay, just a 40 minute drive north from Wellington this is rugged New Zealand farmland at its best. The lodge overlooks 16-miles of pristine coastal scenery and offers splendid yet unpretentious accommodation in 20 guest cottages. The main lodge is English-country in style, and has been renovated into a grand home from its station home beginnings.

Each suite has a king-sized bed, private bath and open fireplace, and is placed to take full advantage of the magnificent views.   Professionally guided activities include horseback riding, four-wheel-drive safaris, mountain climbing, farm tours, fishing and diving, golf and wine tours.
